Convention Agenda

Saturday Morning Pre-Convention Activities

7 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. SparkPeople Fun Run

Put on your running shoes to work out before the convention begins! This optional morning run is open to runners of all speeds and fitness levels.  SparkPeople Coach Jen and Resident Expert Nancy, along with member volunteers, will lead the group through a 3-mile run that will take approximately 30 minutes.

7:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. SparkPeople Morning Walk!

Wake up and get walking! Coach Dean, along with SparkPeople employees will lead walkers of all speeds and fitness levels from the Northern Kentucky Convention Center along the Ohio River. Meet up with other members and start your day off right with this optional workout.

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Make Your Life an Adventure
Presented by Chris “SparkGuy” Downie, SparkPeople founder & CEO
Ever wonder how SparkPeople came to be, or how it can be free? SparkPeople Founder Chris Downie explains how he used simple goal-setting and fitness principles to overcome anxiety, increase his energy, and thrive in the world of business. His professional success provided the fuel he needed to start SparkPeople, where a small team of employees works hard every day to provide a supportive online community where members take center stage and help one another reach their goals. Thanks to these members, who faithfully Spread the Spark to others, SparkPeople has grown into a movement. It's not just about weight loss; it's about taking small steps to reach all of your life's goals and make your life an adventure!

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. SparkPeople Secret of Successes
Member Panel Discussion

We've rounded up some of SparkPeople's most inspiring members to share their secrets of success with you! After mistakes and plateaus, they reached their goals by making healthy habits a part of their lives forever. Now they're ready to share their stories and motivational techniques—including the most valuable lessons they learned along the way—and to answer your questions!


11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Lunch and Optional Activities
Take some time to enjoy a delicious, healthy lunch, meet up with other members, or enjoy a quick workout. Choose to participate in one or several of these fun SparkPeople scheduled activities:

You can purchase lunch from a restaurant near the Northern Kentucky Convention Center (click here for options) or pre-order a catered box lunch (details on registration page). Please note that if you want to pre-order a box lunch, you will be charged at time of registration.

  • 12 p.m. – 12:20 p.m. Walk and Talk
    Meet up with your new SparkFriends for a lunchtime Walk and Talk session! Led by SparkPeople coaches, this walk through quaint Covington, Kentucky and along the Ohio River (weather permitting) will take approximately 20 minutes. Exercise at your own pace and meet other members. Be sure to wear appropriate attire and footwear if you plan to walk with us!

  • 12:30 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. Cardio-Strength Interval Workout with Coach Nicole
    Elevate your heart rate and work your muscles with this 20-minute exercise routine led by Coach Nicole! All levels welcome! Be sure to wear proper workout attire and footwear if you plan to exercise.

  • 1 p.m. – 1:20 p.m. SparkPeople Expert Panel Discussion
    Join us for a panel discussion! During this informal Q&A session, attendees will have a chance to ask questions directly to our experts, Dietitian Becky, Coaches Dean, Jen and Nicole, Resident Experts Nancy and Dave (head of SparkPeople web development). Hang out, listen in, and get information!

1:30 p.m.– 2:15 p.m. Reflecting on Weight Loss: 10 Lessons from My Journey to Yours
Presented by Nancy Howard, SparkPeople Resident Expert

For well over 30 years, Nancy struggled with her weight, believing she was destined to a life of obesity. While she was a successful dieter, she never achieved lasting weight loss until she finally let go of her "diet" mentality and adopted a healthy lifestyle. In this presentation, Nancy will share 10 valuable lessons she learned during her inspiring 70-pound weight loss journey. Combined with her personal story, you'll learn how to accept your body, ditch the scale, reach your goals, and find happiness TODAY—whether you're 10, 50, or 200 pounds from your goal weight—by discovering that YOU control the power to change your own destiny.


2:15 p.m. – 3 p.m. What Type of Eater are You?
Presented by Becky Hand, M.Ed., Licensed and Registered Dietitian

Do you struggle with one-size-fits-all approaches to healthy eating? Are you tired of forcing yourself to change what, when, or how you eat just to lose weight? Then it's time to make your diet fit you, not the other way around! Dietitian Becky will lead you through a fun and interactive self-assessment that will help you determine your eating personality. Then, you'll get specialized tips that will help you find peace with food, manage your weight, and stick with your healthy eating plan once and for all—simply by following your true nature.

3:30 – 4:15 p.m. Become a Leader in the SparkPeople Community and Beyond
Presented by Coach Jen Mueller, SparkPeople Community Leader, with SparkPeople experts

One of the most powerful components of the SparkPeople system is its online Community. By offering support, motivation and answers to other members, you act as a coach and are more likely to reach your own goals, too. But how do you become a good leader in the online Community? In this interactive session, Coach Jen will answer your questions and share the most effective ways to start and lead SparkTeams and successfully Spread the Spark to your family, friends and local community. If you're passionate about sharing SparkPeople with others, but need ideas to get them excited and on board, this session is for you!


4:15 p.m. – 5 p.m. Closing Remarks
